Stay Busy with SAR this Summer

July is typically a quiet month around the Association but we are seeing the effects of the market shift with people coming and going – buying lockboxes and joining the Association.
We received a grant from NAR and hosted a very educational book tour stop for Leah Rothstien’s new book “ Just Action”. It is a follow-up to her Dad’s enlightening and highly popular book “The Color of Law”. The talk was very informative and highlighted the actions we can take everyday in our businesses to create more housing opportunities for underserved communities who were impacted by the overt and systematic restriction and denial of housing in the past decades. The “Color of Law’s” historical depiction of how people of color were denied equal access to housing and generational wealth building laid the foundation for Ms. Rothstien’s new book that is a must read for Real Estate practitioners. Learning how to have meaningful conversations with not just our clients but influential people in the community to create more opportunities for all is the goal we should all aspire to. Kudos to Ms. Rothstien for her work on this.

In other Association news, the election cycle for SAR Board of Directors opened 7/17/23 and we have so many well qualified candidates. It is awesome to see the participation in SAR at this level. As real estate professionals and volunteers at the association these dedicated individuals will be integral at shaping the future of SAR regardless of the election outcome. Please do not forget to vote as these are your chosen voices for the direction of the Association. Voting closes on 8/1/23.

Our main meeting for August is on August 1st and you must register to attend main meetings now. It is a shift from just walking in but this allows us to make sure our members are getting everything they deserve as this is a member benefit and not open to the public. We have a wonderful speaker that day, Amanda Blackwood from the Sac Metro Chamber with an update about what is happening around the region. This is always a great one to plan to attend.

If you have ever thought about becoming a California Association of REALTORS® Director, now is your chance to apply. You can read more about it and fill out an application by August 7th for appointment to those positions for 2024.

Speaking of getting involved, it is time to start thinking of the committees you may be interested in serving on for 2024. Look at the website for a description of each committee. Those applications should be coming out soon as well.

On August 12th, Scholarship will be having their popular Laughs and Leis Comedy Night fundraiser. It is all for a good cause and a bunch of fun. You can never go wrong with a fun filled evening of clean comedy and enjoying each others company.

Our Young Professionals Network is having their Mixer on July 26th at Crawdads on the River. Super fun networking event and very popular. We all had a blast there last year and this year promises to be another all-out fun event.

With so much going on we are having a busy summer and the association is here to help you be a success. Take a look at the class schedule as we have so many online opportunities as well as live classes coming up. We are here to make your Real Estate Career even better.
Have a great Summer and I will see you around the association.
