If Not You, Then Who?

Dear Members,

If not you, then who? I had the opportunity to attend an event last week where three of our region’s female city mayors spoke: Bobbie Singh-Allen of Elk Grove, Porsche Middleton of Citrus Heights, and Martha Guerrero of West Sacramento. When asked about why they chose to step into these roles, they spoke of a sense of passion for our area, a sense that they could not wait for others to step up, and that it was time to step up and lead.

I know many of our REALTOR and Affiliate members are already highly engaged members of our community. I know many of you who serve as neighborhood association leaders, on city or county boards and commissions, as PTA volunteers, youth athletic coaches, on nonprofit boards, and in many other roles. Many of you aspire to be the best you can be in your community…but have you thought of stepping up to another level?

My theme for the year as you probably already know is “Building Our Bench”. Not only are we looking to encourage and motivate new association leaders to step forward, but we are also encouraging new community leaders to step forward. Next week on Friday March 18th, SAR, in partnership with the California Association of REALTORS®, and the Sacramento Metro Chamber PAC will present a workshop to guide people interested in civic service along the pathway to get involved. It is FREE to attend. Hear from experienced speakers and local elected officials to share their strategies and stories on breaking down the campaign process and developing the skills you need to put your name on a ballot.

While this event will be geared towards professionals including REALTORS®, anyone interested in learning from experienced decision-makers is welcome! And again…if not you, then who? Who do you know who is considering a move down this path? Who do you know who would be an amazing leader. Please share this event with them. Coffee to Cocktails: A Professional Development Day Focused on Running for Public Office.

Cheers!
