Christmas CanTree

REALTORS® Raise $90,000 for Sacramento Needy Families

The Sacramento Association of REALTORS® Charitable Foundation presented a check to the Salvation Army for $90,000 at a ceremony Tuesday finishing out their yearly Christmas CanTree fundraiser.

Citrus Heights Mayor Mel Turner and Citrus Heights City Councilwoman and SAR Member Sue Frost light the ceremonial CanTree at the check presentation Tuesday.

The Christmas CanTree is an annual fundraising effort of the Sacramento Association of REALTORS® Charitable Foundation to support the Del Oro Division of the Salvation Army. The CanTree, which is one of the major efforts of the SAR Charitable Foundation also raised $90,000 in 2013. Since 1983, SAR and the Foundation raised more than $2.7 million to feed Sacramento’s hungry citizens.

This money is used by the Salvation Army to provide holiday food baskets and year-round food assistance for needy families and individuals in the Sacramento area. More than 165,000 local individuals are expected to benefit from the funds contributed through CanTree according to the Salvation Army.

The Sacramento Association of REALTORS® Charitable Foundation raises money all year for the CanTree effort, and constructs a Christmas tree made of canned food, this year it is displayed at Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights through December 26th. Once the tree is dismantled the cans are delivered to the Salvation Army.
