The Sacramento Association of REALTORS® Charitable Foundation and CanTree Committee are hosting the 3rd annual BBQ Cook-off. This fundraiser is in benefit of the Salvation Army and charities of the foundation.

The 2023 winning BBQer and Grill Master, Tamara McNeil, plans to take a 2nd championship this year! If you compete and beat the Grill Master, you go home with a cash prize for the crowd favorite BBQ and bragging rights!

Get ready for an exciting BBQ competition that’s perfect for the whole family! Adults will enjoy a delicious plate of BBQ with sides, along with sampling from various vendors and opportunities to win raffle prizes. Teens and children will have their own fun with BBQ plates, outdoor activities, and sweet treats. It’s a fantastic way for parents to savor BBQ delights and drinks while kids kick off their weekend with outdoor adventures. Join us for a day filled with food, fun, and friendly competition. You will receive a Passport that you will need to take to each vendor booth and receive a stamp, once you have all of the stamps, drop it off in the raffle drum for a chance to win the door prize! We will also host a general raffle with a ton of prizes, so be sure to purchase some raffle tickets and drop them in the raffle drum for a chance to win!

Vendors will receive a 6′ x 2.5′ table, 2 chairs, and 2 entry tickets that include a plate of BBQ. Guests receive a vendor passport in which they visit each vendor to get a stamp and turn in for a raffle. Be sure to bring your company easy up, marketing materials, and any swag to give out. The BBQ Contestant Ticket will get you a chance to win the grand cash prize. Ticket includes the table, 2 chairs, and a plate of BBQ for you and your assistant.

There will be a panel of judges, grading each BBQ entry and a People’s Choice to determine who the winner of BEST BBQ will be. Judging will consist of a People’s Choice where the guests will taste each BBQ Contestant entry and vote at your tent, PLUS the scores of our panel of judges that will judge based on Taste, Tenderness, & Appearance. Those compiled scores will be tallied to determine the winning BBQ and Grill master. Winner will be announced at 6:45 PM.

Winner will receive $500 and of course bragging rights!

  1. All Meat must be USDA or State DA inspected and passed.
  2. Only BBQ Pork or Beef Ribs are to be distributed at BBQ Contestant’s booths, i.e. no tri-tip, sides, extras, etc.
  3. Cookers must be gas, charcoal, wood, or pellet smokers. Open pit fires prohibited.
  4. Ribs may be prepped offsite but MUST be cooked onsite.
  5. You are responsible for properly handling and cooking meat to temperature.
  6. You are required to purchase your own meat of choice.
  7. You are expected to provide each attendee with (1) to (2) pieces for tasting.
  8. You are expected to provide your own easy up, grill, and other grilling needs such as power, propane, etc.
  9. You are required to keep all equipment including cooker, canopy, etc. contained within assigned space.
  10. You may arrive as early as 8:30 AM to set up and begin cooking.
  11. You should be prepared by 4:00 PM to serve incoming guests.
  12. SAR will provide you with tasting boats, napkins, and utensils.
  13. Attendees will cast their votes for the People’s Choice.
  14. Be prepared to serve formal panel of judges with samples around 5 – 5:30pm.
  15. The judging will be based on Taste, Tenderness, and Appearance.
  16. People’s Choice voting will run from 4 – 6:30pm.
  17. BBQ winner will be announced at 6:45pm.
  18. SAR will keep you updated on attendance numbers.
  19. SAR will provide a designated bar for alcohol and beverage distribution.
  20. Alcohol distribution is prohibited for contestants and vendors.
  21. Contestants will not be reimbursed for any purchases made for the event.
