April is Fair Housing Month

REALTORS® Reaffirm Pledge to Uphold Fair Housing Laws
As outspoken supporters for fair housing issues and homeownership, the Sacramento Association of REALTORS® will join the nation as it honors Fair Housing Month this April. For over 100 years REALTORS® have promoted and protected the dream of property ownership for millions of Americans and strongly support the Fair Housing Act.

This year is the 46th anniversary of the 1968 landmark Fair Housing Act, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status, or disability. “As leading advocates for homeownership, REALTORS® strive to promote inclusion, diversity, and fairness in today’s housing industry,” said Paula Swayne, President of the Sacramento Association of REALTORS®. “REALTORS® work hard to build communities and an environment where everyone, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, or disability can choose where they want to live. It is important to take time to recognize Fair housing Month in order to promote awareness about fair housing laws.

Locally, the Sacramento Association of REALTORS® strives to inform both their Members, as well as the community, about Fair Housing. SAR’s Equal Opportunities/Cultural Diversity Committee is dedicated to promoting the benefits of homeownership to all local communities by hosting biannual seminars to keep REALTORS® informed on the unique business practices observed by clients from diverse cultures. This allows REALTORS® to reach out to a broader clientele and keep the community, as a whole, within reach of the American Dream. Mirroring this effort, the Housing Opportunity Committee created a seminar which educates SAR Members of the many programs, from EEMs to DPAs (Energy Efficient Mortgage and Down Payment Assistance, respectively), that can help more clients from all walks of life attain viable home loans.

The Sacramento Association of REALTORS® is a professional trade association serving more than 5,500 real estate professionals throughout the Sacramento region. SAR’s mission is to enhance the ability of its Members to practice their profession ethically and effectively, to serve the community, and protect private property rights.
