Statement addressing the death of George Floyd

SAR's 2020 President, Judy Covington, and CEO Dave Tanner, have provided a statement related to the events leading to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, MN. SAR would like to say that we stand in solidarity with those peacefully protesting police brutality and hope positive changes are made as a result.

The Sacramento Association of REALTORS® strongly condemns the criminal activity witnessed in the homicidal killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, MN. We reject racism and the actions of anyone that disrespects or devalues the life of another because they are Black or a member of any minority group. This must end. Racism is not welcome in our home.

It is our responsibility to speak out to right these wrongs. Gandhi noted that silence becomes cowardice when the occassion demands speaking out. Let us not be cowards. Let us resolve to address these issues in a comprehensive way.

Peaceful protest is a way of relieving our immediate stress but it is only a first step when the goal must be to reverse long-standing policies that have allowed the status quo to exist. We need to commit ourselves to establish policies and programs that achieve a permanent end to thse wrongs. This will not happen in a week or two but it is the only acceptable path for us to pursue.

As REALTORS® we stand in solidarity with every person who has experienced police brutality or any other injustice based upon the the color of their skin, their ethnic origin or their chosen lifestyle.

The Declaration of Independence of the United States of America starts the second paragraph with "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." It is now almost 234 years later and we have not made those words a reality for all our citizens. Let us declare that now is the time and this is the place. We can if we have the will.

SAR Offices Limited Opening

We will be opening on a limited basis starting Monday, June 1, 2020. Our hours will be Monday - Friday, 8am - 4pm.
Please note that we are NOT "back to normal" but we still strive to offer the same outstanding service.

  • All persons entering the building must sanitize their hands and ensure a mask is firmly in place covering both the nose and mouth.
  • Anyone entering the building will have their temperature taken via infrared (no touch) thermometer and those with a temperature above 99.5°F will be denied entry.
  • Retail Center: No more than four (4) customers may be in line using the designated social distancing spaces at one time. Use of This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. is encouraged and recommended at all times. Persons with an appointment will take precedence over those without. Those without an appointment will wait outside while all those with an appointment are served. Only one (1) person may shop/browse the store at one time to ensure social distancing.
  • Member Services: No more than four (4) individuals requiring assistance with member services may be in line in the designated social distancing spaces at one time. Those with an appointment will take precedence over those without. Persons without an appointment will wait outside while all those with an appointment have been served.

Staff are still available by email and phone to answer any questions and to assist in areas that do not require person-to-person interaction.
